The AA board is once again working very hard towards providing a high level Open Elite league for the 2023/24 season. Last year everything was in place but was unfortunately not able to continue as several teams backed out at the last minute. To ensure we do not find ourselves in that situation again this year we are aiming to ask for commitment from teams earlier. We will be including Open Elite in with the U19AA schedule which reduces the need for a specific number of registered Open Elite teams.
The 2023/24 season registration will be approximately $6800.00 per team. All teams must have a minimum of 12 skaters and 1 goalie registered on their roster. The season will start October the 1st and will consist of approximately 24 games which will include cross over games with the U19 AA teams. The games will be 4 periods of 10 minutes each and will have two officials as well as a shot clock. A provincial championship will be held at the end of the season. The Open Elite home ice will be Billy Mosienko arena most likely on Sunday either in the afternoon or evening. The U19AA cross over games will take place at the U19AA team’s home rink.
Coaches will not be required on the bench for season play, however a non player coach will be required in order to compete at provincials. To qualify as a coach, only a Bench Code of Conduct is required (no certification is needed). If needed a team may use temporary players if their numbers for a game are less than of 10 skaters. Temporary player may only be used to bring a team’s bench up to 10 skaters and a goalie. Temporary players may be drawn from other Open Elite teams or from any lower level Open Team as well as from a U19 team, provided that they are 18 years of age and have a signed permission form from their coach.
Hopefully this is helpful in giving you guys a bit of info for the Open Elite league. If you have any questions, please contact us:
